NA-T-Bird Ako Sa Ating Sining!

T-Bird at Ako

ANG FAVORITE MOVIE KO…way back…years ago.

Dati nagtutulong-tulong ang mga kalalakihan sa isang barrio para mailipat ang isang bahay-kubo from one place to another. Ngayon, siyempre, kaya ba nila buhatin yon? Edi BAKLASIN!

A Day with The Goddesses

One of the three concepts my team, and I made for the photo shoot held last Sunday, October 18, 2014 was this Four Elements of the Earth, featuring our models, Aira, Aya, Regine, and Chezka, presenting each elements which we thought have matched their look and personality.

I didn’t get the chance to take photos of the other 2 concepts we had, because I did our models’ hair and makeup, and it was tough for me doing all the tasks, including this. Nonetheless, I still got the chance on this part. So, the photos you guys are about to see are mine, and I proudly present you (too) my work not only as a photography student, but a self-taught makeup artist, as well.

The goddess of Fire

This is Aira, presenting the fire element with her fierce look, red dress, and intensified eye makeup. What made her look more fierce was her confidence. We never experienced any moment when we got it really hard to instruct her what to pose, how to portray her element, and all. She is just awesome. Too bad major editing isn’t allowed. I would have made my friend add a fireball on her hand to make it look like she’s really holding a fire — smokin’ goddess of fire!

See? Her element suits her “aura” so perfectly

Best Shot_goddesses

I proudly present y’all the goddesses. (Left: Chezka presenting the water element, Upper Middle: Aira presenting the fire element, Right: Regin presenting the wind element, and Lower Middle: Iraya presenting the Earth element.) I only did light touch-ups on this photo, because I didn’t want to make it look dull and flat (or did I?). The team, and I were very proud of each of them, because they all made our job easier. We didn’t even have a hard time explaining them what to do. It looked as if they knew what they were doing all along, which is awesome!

Thoughts to ponder…

This is a big opportunity to each …and everyone of us to experience professional photography using advanced equipment with the help of our moderator (and his friends who owns the stuff), so it’s really a waste not to take things seriously and professionally. I just quite regretted the day we didn’t prepare so much for this at first; thanks to sir Jun who gave us the second chance to turn things around

…and here it was…

just. awesome

and oh. I’d like to thank my team for not abandoning the ship during the verge of breaking down and fiasco. I will never forget this epic experience I have had with you. 🙂

The Only Thing That Isn’t Considered as Cheating: Love for Food, and Love for Photography (FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY)

Among all kinds of photography, food photography is my favorite. Aside of testing, and writing reviews about cosmetics, cooking, plating, and taking photos of food are also the ones I love doing when I’m not busy working on my school requirements. I love photography as much as I love cooking and eating. My favorite food subjects are mostly cakes, pastries, and pastas because they’re colorful and a lot easier take photos of.

I proudly present some of my best shots, and I hope you guys will find it appetizing. Thanks to my cousin, Joy for helping me do the plating, and the lighting of my subjects. I hope there are more foods in the fridge, so there’ll be more samples.

(A Not So) MACRO Photography Kind of Activity

I hope you guys won’t find my title negative, pathetic or distressing for a photography student like I am who is (obviously) not satisfied of what she had with her work. I was one of those students in our class who didn’t purchase a reverse ring for certain reasons (don’t ask why).

Now, beyond the fact I didn’t get a chance to use the reverse ring, a friend of mine suggested an apparatus that somehow would help magnify my subject for about 10% – 15%. Can you guess? Yep. It’s the magnifying glass. My 18-55mm lens works for medium to close up shots, but it blurs when you take it closer on the subject. Amazingly, when I put the magnifying glass on the lens, it helps double the focus and metering of my shot, helping me accomplish my macro photography activity less hassle.

I present here one of my best shots per category; 1 outdoor, 1 indoor, and 1 random object. Each are slightly retouched using the Adobe Photoshop CS3 (I should have used the Adobe Photoshop CS5, but its bug won’t make me save the image).

The Gumamela Bud
                                                                             The Gumamela Bud

Here’s for my Outdoor Category, the Gumamela Bud. I’d set the metering to “spot”, ISO 100, and white balance in outdoor mode.

Caffeinated Dreams
                                                                                Caffeinated Dreams

This one’s for the Indoor Category. Actually, I can’t think of any more good indoor stuff to set as my subject. So, here I ended up pouring a spoonful of coffee granules on the glass table. If you click the photo, it’ll direct you on my official Flickr account, and you’ll see the original (unedited, yes!) photo. Maybe you’ll observe how I “photoshop”, too.

The Mermiads' Remains
                                                                            The Mermiads’ Remains

Lastly, here’s for the Random Object Category. There are no lice or any trace of dandruff on there, so it’s safe to use. Wait, what?

Something to ponder on…

On this activity, I have learned that doing Macro Photography takes a lot of patience, and timing (if you have a moving/living subject). It might look easy at first, but when you start doing it, especially when you experience using the reverse ring, I bet you’ll change your mind later. Just like any kind of photography, it’s fun, and every shot you fire leads you to a whole new learning and experience.

BOKEH Overnight with my Minions

Before, I thought Bokeh could be done easily by just setting your ISO to 100, and literally isolating your subject from the background to establish the dreamy, soft lights. Now that I’m currently studying Basic Photography as part of my AB Comm Program, my expectations has completely changed.

It’s not always the ISO, or how a person manually adjusts the zoom. The best way to establish the Bokeh, is to set the aperture, the ISO, and the f-stop depending on the lens you are using. Preferably, prime lenses are guaranteed to give you that sexy circles you wanted to achieve.

**This is a non-professional work. So I hope you guys won’t expect too much on the results. However, I’m proud with what I did, and each results appeased me to the extent I eventually learned how to value patience, because Bokeh, especially with those shapes, is not as easy as what you think it is.

So, here are my samples…

RB_BestShot
Regular Bokeh

This shot reminds me of the city lights in Tagaytay. There are some places there that resembles to Manila; it never sleeps.

Bokeh with my minions. You’re not the only one who has minions, Gru! HA!!!

If humans were raised to party, them minions were born to KAMPAY!!!

Regular Bokeh with Mions 2

So, the previous photo was my best shot, but still l would like y’all to see this because I thought they looked very cute in here. It’s as if they’ve planned something evil…and funny.

DB_BestShot
Bokeh with shape

Above all the shapes I could have used for my shaped bokeh shot, I chose the diamond-shaped one, because I thought it’s easier to do, and I liked my bokeh to look like a stained glass. Did I nail it?

HMB_BestShot
Shaped Bokeh with my Minions

“This one’s for the hearts”. I chose to cut out another shape, which is (obviously) the heart, so I could create romantic and dreamy aura to the background. Now, I felt like a cupid in here; I made this two minions fall for each other. Would their Banana Potato song change into a more mushy-toned one?

Thank you, guys for spending your time to read my blogs. I hope you find my works okay, and my minions cute. I’ll post more of ’em soon 😉

Lakwatsera: The city streets of Biñan, Laguna (STREET PHOTOGRAPHY)

“Anything that happens in the street.”

Well, everything happens, and anything can happen in the street. People, buildings, infrastructures, and stores – they’re everywhere!

There are plenty of things and people I would have took photos of, but I, personally did this “Street Photography” thing in a not-so-common way.

Instead of taking photos of people, and street foods (which I almost did), I decided to take photos of things that would mean something to my viewers instead. – a photo that has a message. What those are? Be my guest.

As part of our Basic Photography course/subject, I took 3 photos that convey message in which, I think would remind ourselves about something very important.

14682548829_ace0447c7c_o

If that NO PARKING sign board could talk, he might have slapped the man who parked his car right behind it. **I concealed the plate number to secure the owner’s identity. The other car, which plate number I didn’t concealed was happened to drive past just when I captured the photo. The message I want to convey on this 3rd best shot is, it’s not always the indigent, uncivilized, and/or uneducated people are the ones who disobey the laws. Well, the further I discuss it, the more I’m close to detail my judgement. So, the rest is yours to tell.

14845813936_da06937cef_o

My second best photo is this: The happy street children outside McDonald’s Olivarez. I found this photo meaningful, because it reminded me that not all wealthy children are happy, and the less-fortunate ones unhappy. Before I took this photo, I watched them playing together without anything on their hands but dirt. They didn’t wear durable slippers, and they looked like they’re used in skipping meals almost everyday. As I looked at them, I saw contentment, and felt their pure child-like bliss. They didn’t see and care how unfair the world was to them, because being a kid who’s able to play, grow, and be happy beyond the challenges in life is all that matters.

\14888540443_299f0f6ea0_o

I consider this photo as my best shot. Everyday, people walk in this footbridge just to get to the other side of the street safely — ignoring the stench that makes them sick. I wonder why some people have the nerve to go up here and pee like a dog. Sometimes, civilized people can do worse than the uncivilized ones. I won’t ask why if some of them choose to violate the “No Jaywalking”  sign board below instead; if this footbridge’s made for safety, was it really safe at all?

Tita Duties 101: Lighting Exercises with Jas, and Eianne

My two very cute nieces, Jasmine, and Eianne really helped me a lot accomplish my photography requirement today. They’re so patient, and obedient which had made my job done a lot easier.

My photography buddy, Vina, and I associated each other to do the task. We built a quick studio with black shawl stuck on the wall as our background, and a stool for our subjects to sit on, then voila!

As photography students like we are, it’s kind of “risky”, yet fun and intriguing to improvise instruments to do the perfect lighting. You have to be wise and resourceful when you have nothing but a flashlight, an empty box, and a little experience – all in your hand.

Well, still incomparable with the works of professional photographers with great-arse studio, but I thought we nailed it. Didn’t we?

Here's Jas, the elder sister of Eianne. She really is a model, but this time she's not giving out her best shot, because (first) she's shy, and (second) she just had her central incisors chipped yesterday.

So, here’s my BUTTERFLY lighting effect. I don’t think, I really nailed it, but I had just fun anyway.

Another Jaz's :)
Another Jaz’s :). My lola told me Jaz’s really into modelling. Sometimes, she goes to a photo shoot where she was requested/asked to endorse stuff like little girls’ accessories.

Here’s my LOOP lighting effect. What I understood about making this one is, you have to create two shadows behind the subject. Too bad my background is too dark, and my light is too soft. I wondered why it didn’t look perf as it used in my camera.

Here's Eianne, Jaz's younger sis. They looked so cute together that I yearned for having an elder sis.
Here’s Eianne, Jaz’s younger sis. They looked so cute together that I yearned for having an elder sis.

Seemed I raped the aperture or something, but this is my favorite shot. I thought I nailed this REMBRANDT lighting; my subject is too shy, just like her ate.

Eianne is more obedient than her sister is. Every photo is a perfect shot. It's like she knows where to look; too bad she's shy.
Eianne is more obedient than her sister is. Every photo is a perfect shot. It’s like she knows where to look; too bad she’s shy.

Sorry! I raped it again. It looked as if I didn’t really used any lighting effect or something, but I hope you’d still appreciate it. I’m proud of my work, and I nailed this SPLIT lighting effect…

Lessons learned

…do not play much with the aperture, because in photography, what you see isn’t always what you will get.
